A1 Containers has been offering new and used shipping container sales and hire across New Zealand since 2003. This is the story of our shipping container company.
We started out in Mount Maunganui as a joint venture between John Dustin, who owned Containers BOP, and Barry Williams, supplying the Bay of Plenty area with used containers for sale and hire. The hire fleet was built to around 100 containers and the pair worked together until 2007 when Barry sold his share of the business to John.
John continued to run the business, moving some of the fleet to Containers BOP. Around this time, new build containers started to become available in New Zealand, offering better quality options.
In 2010, Willie and Heidi Dustin sold their container business in Hawke’s Bay and moved to Tauranga to buy the 50 hire containers that A1 Containers had remaining. They took over the operation of the company to guide it into an era of national growth.
Working with John out of the Containers BOP depot in Tauranga, they started by opening depots in the Waikato, then Auckland. Not long before the first Christchurch earthquake, the first South Island depot opened out of Christchurch and Cromwell, which is Willie’s old home town. As the fleet started to grow, old used hire containers were replaced with new ones.
In 2012, Willie and Heidi bought Containers BOP from John and added this to the hire fleet of A1 Containers.
In 2014, Brett Wright joined the team as its third full-time employee, bringing a new level of focus to customer service and care. In 2016, Shane Elia joined the team as the Tauranga yard supervisor. In 2018, Elsie Taitapanui was employed to manage accounts.
Today, A1 Containers has depots across New Zealand and a proud legacy of great service and happy customers. We look forward to being of service to you too.
